How does one prove extraordinary ability in the arts?

There are two ways to establish extraordinary ability in the arts. The first way is to show the person has received a major national or international award in the relevant field. Examples of such an award would include an Academy Award, Emmy, or Director’s Guild Award.
The other way to show extraordinary ability in the arts is to provide evidence of three of the following:

• Performance as a lead or star participant in productions or events with distinguished reputations;
• National or international recognition for achievements as evidenced by critical reviews or other published documents about the person in major newspapers, trade journals, magazines, or other similar publications;
• Performance in a critical or leading role for organizations and establishments with distinguished reputations;
• Record of major commercial or critically acclaimed successes;
• Significant recognition for achievements from organizations, critics, government agencies, or other recognized experts; or
• High salary or other substantial remuneration.

If the person’s field is motion pictures or TV, the above requirements apply, but the government normally looks for evidence of achievement of a higher standard.
