How does one prove extraordinary ability in science, education, business or athletics?
There are two ways to prove extraordinary ability in science, education, business, or athletics. The first way is to show sustained national or international acclaim by presenting evidence of a major internationally recognized award. The government takes the position that this award must be of the highest level, and it gives as an example the Noble Prize. Not surprisingly, very few people submit this hard to acquire evidence.
The other method to prove extraordinary ability is to present evidence of at least three of the following:
- Receipt of a nationally or internationally recognized prize or award for excellence in the field of endeavor;
- Membership in an association in the applicable field which requires outstanding achievements of its members. The assessment of the members’ achievements must have been made by recognized national or international experts in the field;
- Materials published by professional or major trade publications or major media about the person and his or her work;
- Evidence of the person’s participation as a judge on a panel, or individually, of the work of others in the applicable field of specialization;
- Evidence of person’s original scientific, scholarly, or business-related contributions of major significance in the person’s field of endeavor;
- Publication of scholarly articles in the specialization in professional journals or other major media;
- Proof of the person’s employment in a critical or essential capacity for organizations and establishments that have a distinguished reputation; or
- Documentation of the person’s high salary or that the person will command a high salary or other remuneration for services.
Other evidence to show outstanding ability may be presented if the above factors do not apply to the person’s occupation.
