National ID card program proposed to curb illegal immigration

Posted on March 24th, 2010 No Comments

A recent proposal by Senators Lindsay Graham and Chuck Schumer would establish a national ID program to help curb illegal immigration. The proposal calls for the creation of a “fraud-proof” card resembling a Social Security card that they claim will not contain any personal information that could be used by those looking to steal an individuals’ identity. While the proposal has been supported by some, others argue that the difficulty of establishing a nation-wide ID card program may make the suggestion too expensive to be feasible.
