Changes Created by the REAL ID Act
Passed in 2005, the REAL ID Act enhanced security and increased the level of scrutiny focused upon immigrants and foreign individual living or working within the United States. In particular, this law did the following:
- Increased the difficulty of obtaining a driver’s licenses
- Allowed deportation for terrorist activities
- Increased the difficulty of filing for asylum
- Changed limitations on work visas
