F-1 Student Visas

Over 640,000 international students are currently studying in the United States. These students are required to have F-1 visas, but with the added requirements in place after September 11, 2001, these visas can be more difficult to obtain. Before the 9/11 changes, non-immigrant students could easily request a change from B-2 tourist status to F-1 student status. However, now non-immigrant students wanting to study in the United States must apply for an F-1 visa from their home country.

Because the F-1 application process can be difficult, it is important to have an experienced attorney at your side to help you through the procedure. Contact the Orange County student visa attorneys of Garg & Associates, P.C., today at 949-540-6704 to discuss your student visa application and non-immigrant visa rights.

Requirements for Applicants

F-1 visas are monitored by SEVP, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, which acts as a liaison between government organization such as the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security to monitor visa holders, their school programs, and other such interests. To apply for an F-1 visa, prospective international students must meet certain requirements held by the SEVP. These requirements include:

  • Proof that the visa is to be used for study only
  • Proof of adequate funding to support study
  • Proof of academic achievement allowing for continued education

If prospective students are able to sufficiently prove all of the following, the application process may be easier for them.
